Japanorama
E-learning environment for the Centre for Japanese Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands
After the JLL-project ended in september 2004, the Centre for Japanese Studies needed a platform to put on all the results of the project. It was decided to build a simple e-learning environment (with PHP/SQL) open only to student and staff members and call it Japanorama. It contained all learning materials that have been developed during the JLL-project and soon a lot of materials were added. To manage all the assets we used the digital asset management system ActiveMedia which suited our needs very well.
Through the years we received many requests to open up Japanorama to the public and we started to rebuild Japanorama in 2006 with a publically accesible area and a cybrary for student and staff members of the Centre for Japanese Studies in Leiden. To do this we made use of the content management system JOOMLA and used a template called Hivemind by Rockettheme on top of it.
Unfortunately the university decided to stop funding the site at the end of 2008, but it is looking for ways to move it away from the university to let it bloom again.
